our asian virtue - the pretence of humility

one of our hand-down-virtue as an asian is 'be humble'

agree or disagree?

we are taught to not boast and act modest. or else you will suffer from collective punishment

'see that girl, she is a very sombong one, talk big big'

'ya la ya la, know she is very smart one'

but in times i had been annoyed by this supposedly one of the best virtue that we have.

why?

because i had met backstabber using humility as their disguise.

acting all innocent and lost, asking for direction, and as you your attention trying to show the way, the knife punch through your back.

i didn't know that it hurts, until my body remembers and always on alert whenever i met this kind of 'humble' person.

'you better than me, i had done nothing'

'wah, you so hardworking one'

'how's ur work now?'

'me? nothing much oh'

bla bla bla.

'good? no good la, yours better'

'ya but this one capalang only, see your one is the good one'

bla bla bla.

do you know where the lines draw between the real humble person and the fake humble one?

it's when they non stopping-ly being defensive that their works is nothing compare to mine.

and it's sucks when i sincerely giving good opinions about their work, it's all went to the drain. as if they had not heard it at all. or maybe they thought i was trying to 'polish their shoes'

or maybe they thought i was playing the same trick!

and so i learned...when i sense somebody sincerely giving praise of my work, instead of hurrying denying it, i said 'thank you' and 'i like yours too' -if i really feel that way.

as im can feel, so are others. sincerity is real, and it can be felt- whatever your skin colour is.
