I am a 2008 graduate from The One academy. I had my convocation at 26 April 2008. Today, 27 June 2008 I am still cursing that college. Forget about its poor content- interior courses. I know from the start that its interior course is the last on their line. So I am not blaming it, for after you go to work- no matter how good your college is, you will realize how little it is applicable in your working life. (but still, they have to improve it not to close eyes like that!!)
Many don’t know, as international student The One academy charge me RM900 each year for international student fees. There’s never a black and white and the list down on the things covered in this. They just told me it’s for visa fees. I never really go and argue it either. Because I know I will never win anyway.
You can check on my passport, for 1 year student pass is RM60 and visa is RM15. Total is just RM 75! Ok, let’s add up RM100 for taxi fees 2 ways, Maximum is just RM175! Fine, add up those papers, ink, telephone, and whatsoever services, make it RM250.
How much had they earned just from me –a single international student for 1 year? (Not including my courses fees ok?) RM650! Each year!
Can you imagine how much I am cursing all those who are in the admin and finance and college structure line, when today I went there to claim back my international student personal bond RM500 (I don’t know why I am depositing it) and security fees RM200 (in which ways I am being protected??) which all should be RM700 it is left RM270???
What happened??
It happened that I am forced to pay an unknown insurance which cost RM 143/year and at the end of the days only to found out I had insurance! For 4 years!
At 1st year I am paying it. I know I paid it because I had received the notice, and I received the HLA insurance card. But at 2nd year nobody notify me about anything so I though it’s just for 1st year and fine, I don’t need to pay for something I don’t use right?
Today, they told me that I had it. I asked them to give me the proof. Receipts, documents as the un-Notified policy holder for straight 3 years! The lady just walked in to the admin office and out to clarify with me that in order for the ministry to release student visa I need to have insurance. No proofs.
I told them, I had paid the 1st year, so I had to be 2 years left. Why it’s 3 years? At 1st they told me it’s because I registered for August 2004 and only join January 2005. So it’s counted from 2004. (!!!)
Then I asked, isn’t that insurance exist to support my visa? Since I just came January 2005, the visa starts at 2005. Then the lady walked into the admin office again and out to tell me that they counted it 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. Because my visa is valid till this year 2nd of August. Fine, if they explained it this way then I can accept it. (Can you see how unprofessional they are? Can’t you just go and get my policy papers? Or is it actually never exists???)
The thing is, whatever insurance it is, as policy holder it is our right to be at notified (even never being consulted whether we are buying it or not. It’s really a nice target market for insurances sales isn’t it?) : “Hey, we bought you insurance ok? It’s for your visa ok? If you don’t have it we can’t extend your visa. Understand? Ok ar!” Email, call, send me letter, THERE’S THOUSANDS WAYS! (And I stayed 3 mins walk distant to the SRA and admin office!!) Not even once, I get any notice. And The One Academy doesn’t have much international students. There are only 3 at my batch.
Can you imagine what happened, if I ever had accident, and not knowing I had insurance which I can actually claim for!
This is very bad. The One Academy is really bad. The admin officers are useless for not able to prosecute such a simple task.
And to my utter disappointment is that, our of that international student fees I paid each year RM900, it’s not covering the yearly RM143 insurance! And they dare to tell me it’s needed to support the visa. And argue with me it’s insurance, and the 900 is for visa fees. Oh, Fuck with all these peoples.
The One Academy it self is sucks enough. The One friends walking and saying our college are sucks. But it’s for another 1000 reasons. (How you can manipulate your retake classes or other things with parents’ voice. How you can get things done by asking your parents to voice it up instead of being ignored when you face those admin and college officers alone) like when you failed # subjects, and you are only allowed to take 1-2 new subjects and to realize your other friends who failed that # subjects too can take more, 3-4 new subjects. And those student department officers going to bluff you with thousand of things saying you can’t this and that~ and actually you can get it- if you have your parents fire it.
Or when you get black listed at your result list at the start of new semester, and when you appeal wanted to checked your mark list because you know you had performed well enough not to failed, they will brush you off with 2 words: it’s a P&C (private and confidential) property of the college so you cant see it. HELL! It’s my marks! Why I cant see it?!
But when you get your parents to call to check about it they will go and check and tell you actually they had make mistakes for not computing the test result or the final project result and bla-bla-bla-bla.
No wonder my dear friends have idea to get into education line. Not as teacher, but as businessman. Running a school business can earn you million man!!!
Again, for those who are considering about The One Academy and found this post, please think again. And get more research. At last, when you make your decision please get them to list down in black and white about what is included in what you are paying. Don’t get bluff by mouth to mouth conversation. Because after 3 years you don’t have the proof and the people who told you those words had resign who are going to safe the day?
Get them to write it down (not you and your writing) and maybe asked their name and contact and write it down at the same paper. (Though it might not help if later they told you: “oh, she resigned ady.”) anyway. Better than not.

a courage
hi morning! today i arrive 9.30 again :) and get to play facebook game 2 rounds and now going to blog before i start to work ^^
when i walked out from my house at 9, i saw 3 highschool student, 2 girls and a guy (who was smoking as if it's the coolest thing to do early in the morning!!) who was laughing and keep staring at their back (they were walking towards my direction)
then i realize they were laughing at a lady -who was walking far in front of me.
i saw her yesterday. she is a middle age lady, have a nice body and dressed up nicely. but she has a very thin hair. almost bald.
yesterday i was wondering, why didn't she use a wig? wouldn't people stare and laugh at her? isn't that just make her own day harder?
then today i understand. perhaps she dont want to hide it. it's her. then i realize how brave she is. to be true to herself, even under the society pressure {where especially woman are demanded to be pretty} it couldn't be that easy. it need an super extra courage. imagine everyday you stare at the mirror and see your hair getting thiner and thiner.
i admire her. and i pray that she will keep her courage and hope that God will teach me how to gain that level of courage like her.
hope everyone will have a nice day today :D

Me: Eileen, what are you eating?
E: curry chicken...without chicken..
Me: .......... erm, how you order it?
E: Hendra ordere it for me -heehee-
hahaha, finally i really met somebody who actually eat curry chicken noodle without chicken!

New office at Singapore
Konbanchiwa~
now it's 6.02 at new office. i had finished my job for today (i really hope it is done correctly...the one i did yesterday was totally wrong so i spent whole day redo-ing it)
my new office is ORB associates. it's a small ID firm at Little india, Singapore. (actually it's almost in the middle between bugis and little india MRT - i had to walk 15 min from both station to office)
there's only 9 of us here. the boss is Hendra, and 2 of his partners: Mr. Lau and Monica. (btw, Hendra is a indonesian. even though he dont even speak indon ^^; he stayed at singapore since long long time ago)
then for workers there are 6: Caroline, Natalia, Jai, Lin, Ellaine and i. (Caroline is from Jakarta, Natalia is from Cirebon, and Jai is from Batam. Lin is malaysian, and Ellaine is singaporean who is having internship here)
so you see, out of 9, 5 are indonesian ^^; here we mostly talk sing-lish (or hokkian) oh~and here are female dominated ^^
i will start working officially July, now at office helping small assignments.
and will back KL next week to do my-KL-tourist tour-before i officially start work here :)
